Accidental 1960 Topps pack bust......

OK, so I get a decent deal on a 1960 Topps Series 2 (Yaz RC, Mantle/Boyer, Kaat RC, Howard RC) 5 cent wax pack with the understanding that if I deemed the pack to be resealed, he would offer a full refund. That was good enough for me to pull the trigger, and a big tell for me that they were not resealed was that out of all the stuff the guy was selling, nothing was graded. My intent was to send the pack off to GAI and resell it. So as I'm checking the pack for signs of tampering, the glue comes loose, and at this point I have no choice but to open the pack. I was pissed but excited at the same time- I've never opened anything this old. Smack-dab in the middle of the pack was :

front
back

I'm inclined to grade and sell because everyone who has ever put on a Yankees uniform is evil. I sure wish it was Yaz in this condition- he was one of my all time favorites. I think it's an 8, but I also think it's a nicer 8 than this one

I guess the pack was legit. What do you guys think?

  • if you got any stars I would have to think the pack was legit. Guess you could sell them all off and then buy another pack from this person? Maybe he's breaking a box slowly??
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

That pack accidentally opening reminds me of the movie Zapped and a scene with Heather Thomas and
oops! Her sweater just suddenly popped open!!

By the way, what was the guy selling the packs for? Too bad about the pack.

    How'd the gum taste?

If the packs grade out fine I"m betting they'd go around 700. Crunch that with what you'd get for 8's (assuming no OC's) and I"d think you'd be better off keeping them sealed if you buy more. Plus the fact that there is a lot of '60 Topps vending out there, and less and less sealed packs I've got to think the value of the pack will go up at a higher rate.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

I'm kind of confused about the price - that just seems too cheap - BBCExchange has the same series pack for 650$ They also have a cello with the Mantle/Boyer card for a grand!

This may be some kind of fluke - like it wasn't supposed to happen this way! May be one of those deals where ya want to quit while you're ahead?

    Here's the auction

And I bought it because it was this cheap and I had the refund policy. Unfortunately, the seller told me he sent the rest of what he had to get graded. Guess he wised up. I would never open this pack intentionally as I could definitely get at least $400 for it graded, and only a PSA 8 or better Yaz and a PSA 9 or better Mantle/Boyer, as well as a few other 9s would be worth opening it for. I still should do ok here. Even the wrappers go for $40. I guess it depends what the Mantle gets, and it looks like an 8. If he would've given me the opportunity, would've bought all the packs he had left then sent them to GAI.

Well the pack looked mangled from the scan. But the cards inside weren't and you got a very nice deal. Congrats!
