1879 S Purchases - can I get some opinions?

Throwing a BIG THANK YOU!! out to Carl W. for these recent purchases.....just a couple....will show others later.

I didn't want to hijack Kz's thread.

These are all blast white with only 1 rev starting to tone in a couple of spots.

EYoung: Those are some pretty 1879-S's. I especially like the 2nd coin from the top -- it's got a really clean cheek and a nice moderate cameo contrast between frosty devices and apparently semi-PL fields.

  • Thanks Stuart, I am hoping to get a full set of Morgans in MS64. This is getting to be a good start.

  • I like #2 n 4- if you are looking to get a 64 out of these- this would be my choice look to be a solid for a 64 and #2 might get ya a pl.

  • I don't see anything special except the second obverse from the top. That is a very nice coin. Cleaner cheek, nice semi-pl if not pl cameo contrast, nice luster, and great eye appeal. Whether it gets a gem grade from PCGS is almost immaterial as it's a nice coin regardless.

By the way, if you're thinking of a full set in 64--I'd take a gander at the PCGS price guide first. Check out the 93S, 92S, 95O, 84S, 96O, 97O, 03S, 89CC, etc., etc. prices!!
