2004 Westward Journey Nickels

I have a question for the Modern Crap experts here. I have a set of each of the 2004 WJ Nickels from US Mint. My question is, is it wiser to crack them open, look for best and submit (hoping for some high grade examples) or just tuck it away for a few decades? Your thoughts would be very welcome.....and appreciated

My advice is to sell that two roll set. The chances of you finding a MS67/68 are slim to none for those peace medal ones. Now I do not mean to discourage you or sound negative. What I reccomend is to look at other dealer's mint sets and pic your nice one from there. That way you can't lose too much. If you do open them well then I wish you good luck!

If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I have 5 rolls of each. I'm thinking the same think, sell 'em now or keep 'em. It's amazing to know that the Peace Medal ones are going for about 4X face in a roll (the Keel Boat, less).

As a Modern crap wannabe expert who made several of the PCGS 67's in 04.....Put them away and forget about them. They will be worth more in 20 years or so unopened. The rolls were very pathetic. I searched over 12000 nickels last year BTW. Chris
  • Thanks...in the vault they go
