Selling Someone Else's Item on Ebay: Help Needed

I'm not sure if this belongs in another forum, but I'm sure some of you guys have been in the same boat at some point with regard to coin sales. I am selling a watch for my buddy on ebay (using my account). I'm charging my buddy the ebay fees and possible paypal charges.

My problem is this: What if I receive negative feedback? Should my friend be ordered to pay me for the dent in my reputation on ebay? After all, my friend has consigned me to sell his inventory and the neg could have easily been on his own account.

Or not? The arguement being that it was my negligence or attitude toward the buyer that created the neg feedback? (sounds like one of those "it depends" type of answers)

Another problem...what if the buyer returns the merchandise in damaged condition? Should I be ordered to pay my friend? Any advise for those who have sold items for a friend would be greatly appreciated?

Know what you're selling. If you don't know anything about what you're selling, you are putting yourself at risk. If you are doing this as a consignment thing, state so in the auction. Don't pay your buddy until you are sure the buyer got the item and is happy with it.
