Site navigation, and others

Most of you have it figured out.
I'm trying to add pictures and links to my signature line. Do they need to be on an online storage or website? Or can I just upload them? The help button on the top of this page is kind of lacks for my little bit of skills.
How about links? ie www.whatever.com but naming it "my site"?

They do need to be uploaded online. There are a couple free hosts...I'm sure someone can provide you with a link.
