Oh, these are not my pictures. They are the seller's. I'll take new ones when the coin arrives.

Nice Morgan and toning. What's the Mint? I can't tell from the reverse picture.
  • I gotta tell you....after several weeks on this board, and seeing a multitude of toned coins, Dollars especially, toners are really starting to appeal to me! I may have to rethink my whole "blast white" attitude. This coin is really pretty.

Hedgehog847: Thanks for the compliment. I thought as you did and started changing my mind about certain types of toning. I don't go for "monster" toning and I don't think this qualifies for that, but it is attractive.

    CoinJP: Thanks; its an 1890-P.

AnableP: I really like the toning on the obverse of your new 1890-P Morgan, and also like the fact that it's a 2-sided toner.

I agree with you that I prefer more subtle toning, such as the blue peripheral rim (album) toning that your coin has. I always prefer to pick up such coins when they are available for modest premiums over their blast white siblings.

  • Very Nice Coin!!

When you get it, please take a look at what is coming from the Eagle's mouth on the Reverse. The 1891CC has the "Spitting Eagle" VAM variety. It would be a pretty cool catch if this happended to turn out to be a die break on your coin.

Of course it could also be a bug or something. Regardless, still a great looking coin!! image

If I only had a dollar for every VAM I have...err...nevermind...I do!! image

I like the toning on the obverse, but it's difficult to tell from the photo if the reverse toning is attractive. I think there is some fingerprint action on the reverse, and the pictures make it look like a AU55-58, or a very bad strike. What grade did you buy it as?

Well, as per the discussion in the earlier thread, I will let you know if there was any abrasive cleaning. I bought it at MS63 price (a little more, but much less than 64 price).

I don't know about dipping the reverse. I kind of like keeping things natural. We'll see after it arives.image
