Aaron RC auction on EBAY looks verrry fishy... wdyt?

Auction # 5168726427 for a 1954 Topps Hank aaron rookie... the card is apparently graded 88 by SGC, but if you look closer you will notice that under the "88" where the single-digit equivalency grade resides it clearly shows "7.5 NMT+"...

WTF?

The seller only has 4 feedbacks but all are positive... is it possible that the seller doctored the photo and superimposed a second "8" over where the 6 would be, or could SGC have made a mistake during printing the paper inside the case?

thoughts?

Weird - I just don't understand why they give each card 2 grades.

  • I know... I mean, an 88 is an 8, not a 7.5... I wonder if the card is legit or if the seller turned an 86 into an 88 using photoshop or something...

Anyone else ever seen this before?

card flip looks more white between the name and the grade "88". you could be on to something with the photoshop. can you verify the cert # with sgc? it could just be a sgc mistake as well.

    Thanks,

  • I'm not a submitter to SGC so I wouldn't know about the #...

Anyone else think there has been foul play here? I am really considering trying to win this card... I haved never owned an Aaron RC but this one looks like a very sharp card to me... I believe in buying the card and not the holder, and this looks as nice as any of the PSA 9's Steve Novella sold/parted with.

    Any other opinions?

The centering and apparent lack of print defects make my mouth water. I have no clue why it says 88 and 7.5. I thought 88 was 8 in SGC's ratings, no two ways about it.
