New nickel's in the bag. Toned?

OK, another new guy question...
Bought a mint bag of Keel Boat Nickel's. Some of them (20 or so from the $25 bag) are tinted a beige/brown color. Is this normal? Also after reading several other threads from all of you about toned Morgans. Is this the same type thing?

I too have gotten quite a few of these darker nickels... all from mint bags of 2003 & 2004 that I never saw before. I dont know what actually caused the toning, but I doubt it came from a bag. I lean towards some other resolution... was it from something they did to the planchet prior to striking, like overheating the planchet or cooking something on the planchet while in the oven to soften up the planchet for striking? It's not a copper plating, but the toning is on all three sides of the coin. I wish I could take a picture of one of these to show you, but someone out there has to know what this is.

Now that you said it. I think you may be on the right track.
I work in the welding inspection field. At times watching the welders put together chrome, and nickel alloy variations of pipe and plate. I have seen these items get to hot, and start to change to various colors. Mostly greens, and reds. However they usually go back to their original color after cooling.
