Modern Question - Shotgun Roll

I have a question about shotgun roll moderns...are they all done by companies for the mint hence all the coins are uncirculated? Or are there certain companies that do the rolls for larger businesses....

Comments

  • I dunno... but, the rolls I've got from banks, have been rolled by a security truck company or the bank itself, and thus have always had counting wheel damage...

  • I repose this question for the day surfers. More specifacally I am questioning the Brandt Co. of Watertown Wisc. ? Are they a security company? Has anyone ever heard of them?

If memory serves they just make various types of wrappers for coins.

  • Probably affiliated with these three companies, which manufacture retail money handling equipment and supplies. If you want to know who rolls coins for the banks, I read somewhere that it is companies like Brink's. That's why the wrappers are so different between banks...they use different Armored Car companies to deliver their coin. And one company might wrap their coins with clear plastic, while another company wraps theirs with orange/white, orange/tan, scarlet/tan paper or whatever. Sometimes they leave their company name and address on the outside of the box that contains the rolls, but most times they don't and you don't know who rolled them.
If you want rolled coins though, I think the only way to get them is either new from the mint, whatever's available, generally at about a 50% markup or through your local bank if they have them on hand or if you can get them to order for you.
