My recent SLU buying experiences...

While the market for SLUs is certainly depressed, it is by no means dead. Very desirable rookie pieces, especially in baseball, I have found sell at about 35-40% of Tuff Stuff value, including shipping. There are some incredible deals to be found right now, if you are among those that one day these cool little collectibles will be strong in the sports collectibles market again.

I've won a little over 400 pieces recently (didn't go out of control, this was the plan...you believe me, right?), and it was a ton of fun purchasing tough pieces that may have been ridiculously expensive a few years ago. If you're patient, you can pick up tough Jordan pieces for $13-$25. I was able to pick up a truckload of 1988 and up superstars for extremely cheap, especially when purchasing larger lots. Got tons of early Montana, Marino, Elway, Shaq, Ryan, Magic, etc. for a song, even some of the more obscure pieces. Rookie pieces of Jeter, Vlad, etc. still sell but can be had cheap as well.

Because I love SLUs, I'll be happy just owning these. I know there are those who disagree, but I believe that down the road (10 years or so?) these will be popular again for several reasons, which have already been described ad nauseum in other SLU posts. Good long term "investments", if you're into that sort of thing. Either way, I'm glad to have 'em.

Here's to buyin' stuff you couldn't afford when you were 12!
