Found a new coin shop in the Richmond VA area today - bought this 1853 Half Dime

I'm really happy that we have a real shop here again, that you can walk into Monday through Friday during business hours. The name of the shop is A Coin Vault, and is located in Ashland about 12 miles north of Richmond right of I-95. Here is one of several coins I bought from this shop today. I hope they do enough business to stay open.

I use to buy these lttle Jewels when I was a very young girl.

I simply loved them and was fascinated by this denomination, and I would hold them and wonder whom spent it and used it when it was new.

They are all beat and worn, Braddick would be proud of them....

Nope, no mind altering substances! But when I find Seated or Bust material like this that have never been cleaned, I jump on them. They are hard to find. This was the only seated half dime out of over 20 he had that had not seen a cleaning at some point in time.
  • Well, southern AZ , I'm glad to see something other than Morgans From ya!
And I notice you posted a Peace Dollar too....Double whoa!

    Hahahah.

Any Mercs in the new shop? Tell him to come out here in Eastern Oregon and open a shop also. Darn the shop atmosphere is missed...image

Ken, he was pretty well stocked with better date Mercury dimes, mostly circs.

Eric was a Mint State 25P with no bands around ? I'll pay very well for one. 64 or 65 would be very nice.

Absolutely. It's turning out handy to have both lenses.

He didn't have anything prior to 1934 in mint state. I'm looking for a few of those dates.

I like it. You figure it to be VG8?

He just had VG on the 2x2, and I tend to agree. I'd call it a VG8.

Here's another one I picked up, though this is a dime. This one caught a bunch of reflections in the mylar, I'll have to reshoot it later.

  • Nice half dime Eric.

I picked up my first one about a month ago from a forum member. Didn't realize how small they were.image

I have to give the Dime a VF30.

He graded it VF20. I like this guy, hope enough other collectors around here give him some business.

Be careful if you ever sell it Herb. There is one eBay'er who posts bad feedback on half dimes because they are "too small". image
