An Enlightening Conversation With NGC Coin Grading Customer Service

I called to check on the status of an early bird (12 working days - i.e. M-F's) submission to be informed that early bird was running about 19 days right now.

I then asked if ANY& of their services were guaranteed in the "estimated" timeframe they advertise and they said point blank - NO!

A major competitive disadvantage viv-a-vis PCGS - IMHO

  • Yeah, that is kinda bogus. If they say 12 days...and it's 19, you should be refunded the difference or given a few free submissions.....

I prefer the estimate to the guaranty, simply because it's less of a shock when they're late, but that's just me.

Yeah, that must be why NGC submission numbers keep going up every month. The fact is that over the last year they've taken a substantial bite out of PCGS's hide.

BTW, what's worse? A company that makes promises they frequently do not keep, (PCGS), or a company that doesn't make promises, but frequently gets the job done more quickly and more efficiently than the company that makes the promises?

I had an order that was received there on 2/1, the grades posted today. It was a world economy. Works for me...

I've got a U.S. economy submission (21 days) at NGC that was received on 1/19 that is still scheduled for grading.

    Been there since 2/11.

I was told on the NGC forums that I was rushing them.

They will grade them when they grade them. Still not bad and pretty much on target I guess.

  • I'll say it again, I complained about it before... NGC Submission sent in on 2/2/05 Early Bird. When I called a couple of days ago they told me they were running so far behind that I shouldn't expect it for a month. They give you nothing for being late. IMO they should at least have some way to find out how late their Early Bird is going to run, cause if I knew it would take this long I would have sent them economy.

  • I submitted 12 coins to NGC at the FUN show. They were entered into the NGC database on 1-17-05. At the time I entered them, the lady told me that economy was taking around 33 business days or about 5 weeks. This is still about half of PCGS service. image
