Need help with gold eagles

I have a friend who is looking to buy 4 either 1/2 ounce or 1/4 ounce ungraded 2004 US Gold Eagles to give to some of his employees as gifts. Surprsingly, I can't seem to find many on eBay. Does anyone have a good source for these?

Thanks. I already looked at Tulving but it seems as if they have a minimum 15 ounce for gold. He wants just 4 coins not a pound (almost) of gold! ( )

Heh. Actually, only 14.5 ounces of gold make up a pound. (As gold is weighed on the Troy Ounce scale which is 31.1 grams per ounce and not 28 grams per ounce). So a regular pound of gold is about 14.5 Troy Ounces, while a Troy Pound would be 16 Troy Ounces.

Not every hit from this search is going to be a $10 or $25 gold eagle so read each item of interest carefully.

Yeah, we've searched on eBay but not as cleverly as you did. Until I saw your search, I didn't know how to "subtact" words. I added 2004 into your search and found...one ICG graded coin! ()

Jdurg and Smittys: I don't think he wants to buy a troy pound, either.... Just 4 coins.

It's surprising to me how something that ought to be about as common as dirt is actually not that easy to finds. So, does anyone else have leads? (Or discussion about troy tons...)

Ahhh yes. I knew there was something off about my calculations. The entire Troy Weight system was just designed to confuse people.

No problem, Mark. Some additional ebay searching tips... searches for terms with dollar signs fail for some reason so don't do it... sellers can misspell keywords... sellers can choose poor categories to list items. Best search strategy: use just one or a few keywords in the positive sense within the largest tolerable category (like 'Coins') and then include a long list of subtractions through trial end error.

Example search within the 'Coins' category:

gold -(scrap, "1/20", nugget, nuggets, strike, bar, bars, troy, ingot, ingots, nugget, ancient, token, tokens, Chinese, Panda, Australian, proof, lunar)

This one currently hits only 58 items for items ending in 5 hours. I find when looking for gold coins that I waste my time studying items up for bid days into the future as often somebody bids the coin up beyond what I'm willing to pay. 58 items ending in the next 5 hours is a manageable set to study.

One final tip: Items in parentheses work for positive as well as negative terms. If I wanted to stick to Big Three slabs of gold coins I could say:

gold (PCGS, NGC, ANACS) -(scrap, "1/20", nugget, nuggets, strike, bar, bars, troy, ingot, ingots, nugget, ancient, token, tokens, Chinese, Panda, Australian, proof, lunar)

This search has only 3 hits at the moment.
