1956 topps football set $5,000?? too high???

wondered if anyone else thought this asking price was too high. As some of you know I am looking for a PSA set to go along with the raw 56 I have sitting around.

Way high for this particular set.

    Loves me some shiny!
  • The whole set is not graded out a PSA 8 and the checklist is marked!!! Maybe someone will bite, but seems way too overpriced.

  • i dont think it could be said that this set is overpriced. the last milehigh or mastro auction sold a 60 fleer football set for more than that. it rated higher but had fewer cards. neither set has a great hof rookie showing. all in all i'd say this probably won't get a bite on ebay, but i bet it would clear that price in a major auction.

*i misread the auction...i thought the set was 100% graded...that asking price is a delusional one for sure.

    51 total graded. Only 21 PSA 8. No 9's. So majority PSA 6 & PSA 7.
Most stars are not PSA 8 or OC raw.

It does have the Redskins in PSA which is nice but thats about it.

Marked checklist with the rest of the raw set being mostly EX/EMT.

    $2000=$2500 if that.

  • This set was found a few years ago in unopened form and I believe that most of the material was opened and dispersed. If you look at the pop reoprt, this set has the highest number of 9's and 10's from any set of the era. I would not be to aggressive for a set that did not have some top material in ti.

Wanted: Bell Brands FB and BB, Chiefs regionals especially those ugly milk cards, Coke caps, Topps and Fleer inserts and test issues from the 60's. 1981 FB Rack pack w/ Jan Stenerud on top.
  • Did someone find a load of wax boxes for this year?? How could there be a find of unopened cards from 1950's???

don't know the specifics but it was a ton of vending that was found making this set much easier in high grade
  • well that explains the price. The raw set is $1600-1800 in beckett, which is low for the time period. I always wondered why, I just figured it was overproduced, but if there was a large find of vending that more than explains it.

Hold on, are you guys talking about the 56 Topps or the 60 Fleer?
  • sorry typo, I meant $1600, now that I checked, it's really $1800. My bad have to go back an edit.
