OK, I lay in a lowball snipe on this. Not bad, 6 slabs for $35

Then I see the shipping ! $12.95 comes up in the pay paypal screen. I e-mailed the seller telling him what I think of the shipping cost, that I think it's a RIP and I will leave feedback saying so! I can see $5 or $6 but $13 for shipping. Geeze...
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

    Sneaky - you have to enter your ZIP Code to find it. Not much you can say, though, it's what is stated in the auction. Now if he doesn't ship USPS Priority like his little calculator says he will, nail him with bad feedback.

    Marty, you have to watch it when these guys use the shipping calculator. I just punched in my zip, and it said $12.50. That's obscene, I could ship these with insurance for less than $6 including packing materials.

    I won this auction before I noticed the insurance charges. S/H was bad enough at $3.95 but $3.50 for insurance (reqd) on a $6.05 winning bid. I emailed the seller and he responded back quickly that the insurance was a leftover from another auction and that he would send me a new invoice with the insurance removed.

    I avoid ALL AUCTIONS that use the shipping calculator! The charge is alway 3-5 times what it should cost.

    Actually, I've found some that were reasonable. Just punch in your zip and see if the charge is inflated or not.

    Geez, not all of us that use the shipping calculator are inflating the costs ! image

    Simply avoiding an auction just because they use the calculator seems a bit harsh to me.

    I've also found quite a few that are real reasonable. One I regularly buy from charges $1.33 for a slabbed coin and even less on a raw coin. Everything comes packaged nice and safe too.

    $11.90 for me, priority or $25 for express mail. Where's the first class option? Expensive considering that on the map this seller is only 2 inches away from me. I would have said:

    "Dear seller, why the he11 am I being asked to pay priority rates for modern crap? I'm in no hurry.

    If he had set forth the price of shipping in the description, I'd say your fault. But I feel the calculator is intentionally deceptive. personally, unless I really wanted the item, I'd send him an email saying shipping is unreasonable and therefore he can keep it. If he wants to be negative, you can do the same. He is , IMHO, being dishonest.

    It doesn't matter if you live next door to the seller. He says in his auction (well, not actualy in the auction, there's the stupid calculator, but you get the point..) that he charges $12 and change for Priority. So pay the $12, and then make damn sure he knows you expect it to be shipped Priority. As long as he spends all $12 on postage there's no problem, but if he sends it in a padded mailer for $.49 first class - then you whack him with bad feedback.

    Contact him and say... look it's a $35 lot. We don't need to insure it and it doesn't have to go Priority. What would you charge me for First Class not insured?

    That sucks on the shipping calculator....I have tried that one more than a few auctions and it is always double digits. No matter what. I won't use it when I sell things....I think it is screwed up!

    I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

    I'm not convinced of your stupidity. Why don't you buy this item? The shipping is only 1000 times the BIN price. I've had to look at this a few times. I don't mind spending $10 on a Morgan. Just thought it was funny with the difference between the BIN and S&H.

    Obviously the bidders factored in the high shipping cost since, even including the $12.95, the total comes out to about $6 less per coin than it would cost to have them graded.

    I've gotten caught on the shipping scam once or twice as well. I refuse to leave feedback. I've quietly paid, gotten the coins, then reported them and their auctions to eBay. One seller was blantently selling small $1-$10 dollar items with $12-18 in shipping. Ludicrous. EBay, of course, responded with a nice letter a few days later telling me the seller had done nothing wrong and their investigation was closed.

    There's no scam here. All the costs are plainly laid out in the auction description. If a bidder is too "stupid" to adequately analyze those costs before bidding, it's their own damn fault; not the sellers.

    IMHO, MadMarty is out of line when he says he is going to leave feedback saying that the seller's shipping rates are a rip. Shipping charges on eBay auctions are ultimately irrelevant to the informed bidder, as they will simply factor the cost of shipping into their bid.

    Sounds like a racket to me!! Like many items for sale on TV. They make their money from the shipping and handling charges, and hope you return the item so they can resale!!

    Of course you have a right to say whatever you want. That doesn't make you correct. If the shipping cost was hidden in some way, or if the seller changed the terms post-auction, then you'd be correct to flame him all you want. But the bottom line is that the shipping cost was clearly spelled out in the auction terms. You're basically flaming him for your own poor research and stupidity (your word). It's not his fault you didn't read all the terms.
