Is this the next PCGS holder generation to be "Upgrade!!!" hyped by sellers??

The holdered coins I'm referring to are the blue non-barcode insert capsules. I've been seeing many lately at eBay as well as shows which are rather lackluster, and they also seem to be some of the coins in my collection that I tend to think will be the first/easiest to upgrade, even if that's just a same grade upgrade. My impression is fast becoming that much of the current hoopla regarding the strictness of grading from PCGS will eventually put the gradeflation myth to rest and in it's proper context. This game has played out with the rattlers and the green insert OGH coins. My disclaimer is that this opinion is based solely on the types of coins I collect and nt meant to say that I've been looking at everything across the spectrum.

Any thought/opinions or similar findings out there in Coinalot??

Something will be hyped, but some coins go lacking even in green holders. I bought this coin last night because I was tired of second guessing myself about it. It's been listed in four consecutive auctions, and BIN'd and returned once before. I have no idea why it's in a 5 holder based on the pics, but I bought it solely because of the strong reverse (usually weak on this date). What I know for sure is that the coin hasn't been NCS'd, as the holder is too old. We'll see what it looks like in hand. What I also know is that Rick knows what they look like, and if it was undergraded he'd say so. Odds are it's an ordinary 5 with a decent reverse.

  • Al, I believe you mean Blue Label, Barcode on Back, or BLBOB as I like to call them.

Will they be hyped? Is this America? image

I call this the PCGS Sloppy Period. For one thing, it's when they made a zillion PR70DCAMs right before they suddenly ceased making them at all for a couple years. I've seen quite a few of these "perfect" coins that wouldn't have a prayer today.

When I was building a couple full proof Kennedy sets, this generation holder was the most likely to contain junk. I trust these slabs sight-unseen only slightly more than PCI.
