1921-D Morgan - dot on obverse, die cracks

I have three 1921-D Morgans I can not attribute. Here's the first one....
There's a small dot under the neck, tripled 2nd right star, two thin cracks inside M in UNUM.
Just a 21-D with some cracks and a dot?

  • ...second coin has a wide die crack on reverse from OF to LL in DOLLAR, another crack under the mint mark. Cracks on obverse from denticles to 19, first three left stars, over E, and more.

...third coin has reverse cracks through D in UNITED, under DOLLAR, under A in AMERICA, across STATES. Obverse through 192, first few left stars....

  • With the first coin...Some dots were from performing Rockwell hardness tests (see VAM Encyclopedia Pg 125) others were caused by occluded gas pockets. Still others could have been from carbon spots (The spot above the M on your second coin looks like a carbon spot). I don't think this is either (no help huh!). I think yours might have been a piece of crud between the coin planchet and the die. But I'm no expert (see page 456).

You might want to count your berries on the other coins and check the reed count and see if there is any infrequent reeding (pg 105-106). Looking here might also help see what reverse type your coin is so that you might be able to narrow the attributes down.

Sorry I'm not much help...didn't see anything at Ashmore.com either on the cool die breaks.
