<< <i>I'm not sure I'd be giving a to buying that Morgan from him. My point is when several coins all have the same look, despite being 3 different denoms from different eras, your little AT antenna should go up -- even if the coin is slabbed.

The was in reference to you being right. I knew what I was buying before I bought the coin, but thought that the TCCS could use the coin in an AT display.
Steve
wait a minute. what am i thinking?? i know what the point is, it's simple.
this is another one of those thinly veiled U.S. Coin Forum eBaySellerWitchHunts that pop up here with regularity, based solely on who the seller is and what the holder is, right??
the fact that the coins pictured are among the most common from their respective series' and the toning isn't necessarily anything to be suspicious of, well, draw your own conclusion, i've drawn mine.
just another reason for a seperate forum, The eBay Witch Hunt Whiner Forum.

I am not a party to witch hunts per say not that you were directing you comments specifically to me.......but I can tell you that the coin I bought looked AT to me so......maybe in highlighting the situation, we might be able to save some of the newer collectors from spending their hard earned money for coins that have been messed with
Like I said...I knew what I was buying, but other may not and the odds of that many coins from multiple years and denomonations all having the exact same toning is well........1 in a million.
I doubt anyone is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to read, and respond, to any of the threads.
well, here's where we part ways with regard to our opinions. first of all, i don't view the toning on these coins as the same. the Ike and the Jefferson are similar, but the Peace Dollar looks different. basing an opinion on color is fruitless since all the same colors will ocurr on each of the coins and judging from what i've seen, the only coin that looks "over-toned" is the Ike Dollar. i haven't seen many toned Peace Dollars, but the ones i have seen are either banded or have the darkness of this one with the same basic colors. as far as the Jefferson, the colors on this coin are common enough to me that it's nothing special. secondly, with the above statement you have made a very shortsighted determination----you have assumed that all the coins pictured and any others with similar toning have acquired that toning starting on the date they were minted. what if white coins from different eras were placed in the same type folder at the same time??

Different washes and minting techniques would certainly make that improbable...not impossible...but improbable. Most folks who collect Peace dollars know they tone nothing like Morgans.....sure their are a few examples that look similar, but for the most part.....not even close and not with a deep green over the entire obverse and reverse. I also want to see another Peace dollar with that type of toning since you feel like that is some of the typical toning you see. I am not comparing coins in general with my statement about coins not toning the same across different denominations...I am comparing these specific examples and yes.....looling at the seller in question who sells tons of AT coins does make you have to question how so many coins can look the same and still be NT.
This isn't about the general laws of toning as it relates tom the different US coin denominations...this is about comparing the Morgan I have...with the Peace dollar pictured.....the toning is absolutely identical, therefore it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that both coins have a high probability of being AT.
Were we agree is on the nickel and Ike.....I don't think they look like the Peae dollar either...I still suspect they are AT, but at least there is a chance they are real. What's the old saying "where there's smoke theres usually fire"
So to be completely fair to you Keets...I will post my Morgan and then let you compare the two. Then give me your honest opinion on the question of "Do these coins have the exact same toning or not"
