Hello everyone,
I have lurked for guite sometime now and its time that I came out of the closet. I have really learned a lot in the last year and thats good for a 52 yr old grump. I started back collecting coins again about 5 years ago and it has become a passion again. Almost an obsession. I am mostly into half dollars (don't worry Russ and Marty) and am currently trying to put together and certified set of Franklin halves and Kennedy proofs.
I would like to give special thanks to Nick (onlyroosies) for providing me with what I think is the greatest set of raw (and toned) roosie dimes a person could ask for. Also to Russ for all the info needed for the Kennedy set. I had the pleasure of meeting some of the members at the Houston coin show in Jan and they were all very freindly and helpful. I have purchased several coins form fellow board members on flea bay. I go by the name of fourssss.
My coin topic concerns my latest find in a roll of Wisconsin qtrs. I couldn't resist the urge to not open my 3 rolls that a friend at the bank saved for me. After all the hoopla came out in the Houston paper about some showing up here I had to know! One of the coins had what looked like black dirt in several areas. I took a Q tip soaked in alcohol and gently wiped away the dirt ( wouldn't have known to do this if it weren't for ya'll) and everywhere there was dirt (I think it was grease) there was a void in the metal. There was a blob on the c in Wisconsin and now there is no c. I don't suspect it is of great value but I thought it was pretty cool to find it. There weren't any extra leaf's in the 3 rolls.
My question is I know this came from an original bank wrap roll. but what would keep one of the top grading companies from kicking it out (bb) for altered surfaces. It looked like someone took acid to it everywhere there dirt. I'm assuming that this was struck thru grease on the dies Any help would be appreciated.
Also; I need help on getting a picture in my logo. I will try to get a picture of the coin as soon as I figure all this out. Thanks everyone Steve

Usually there is some luster under the strike throughs though it is often very subdued.

Apropos of the coin posse/aka caca: "The longer he spoke of his honor, the tighter I held to my purse."
if you are worried about either PCGS and NGC bb'ing the coin, (which if a genuine error, i don't see why they would) there is always ANACS.
sounds like a nifty error find!
edit:*hey wow, noticed you are a 'Steve' too!*

Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.
<-----------------1951 was a good year.
I'll have to dissagree with you, 52 is not old.

As for the 'old grump', you're only as old as you feel. I might be almost 25, but I feel like I deserve an AARP card.
