<< <i>At Sotheby's Important Americana Auction, I was drawn to the labeled Seymour card table that school teacher Claire Beckman bargained away at a garage sale some 30 years ago for $25. First identified on the Antique Roadshow, the table was hammered out for $541,000. "Way to go Claire!" I said from my auction seat. >>

I saw that episode of Antiques Roadshow and that lady about keeled over and had a heart attack when she heard the two antique dealers say that it was worth $500,000. They then made a follow up episode in which they went to the auction and sold the table for over the estimate. Ever since then I have been searching of one of those $25 dollar tables and if I ever find one I will sell it and all the money will go to buy some very nice barbers.
If only a few were made then how could this one have had enough circulation to become a VF example? I guess they pulled it out of circulation in the early 1800's!!!

It is also possible that it was carried as a pocket piece. The amount of wear indicates that it either circulated or was carried around for quite a few years!

Actually, on the show the Keno brothers put the estimate at around $250K to $300K. They were a little off.
I love watching those guys do appraisals because you know right away if the item is a winner. They get all giddy like a school girl.
