Considering ALL sports, who were the three (3) best athletes ever?

Deion (I really hate including him)
Jim Thorpe
Bo Jackson
I used multi-sport guys as my criteria. I'm sure many single sport guys are obviuosly fantastic athletes.
Bo Jackson #2.
And my third is going to be a stretch to a lot...
#3 Babe Ruth. Most people only know the images of him late in his career and life, where his life of partying and hard living showed its signs. But the man was an absolute beast, and how many other members of the 500 HR club also won 20 games in a season?
Pele
Al Oerter
2. Jim Brown
3. About 10 or 20 tied for third
1. Jim Thorpe (who else could it be?)
2. Babe D. Zaharias (what desire)
3. Jesse Owens (talk about courage)
The top two are easy choices, # 3 is more difficult but I will go with Jesse Owens.
Vintage golf, 1981-82 Donruss golf, and a few other odds and ends.
Anybody else you can say was the best ever in TWO SPORTS?
HOF Quarterbacks Football
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
2. Babe Ruth
3. Jackie Robinson (played college football, baseball, and basketball)
Honorable mention - Dave Winfield (drafted by MLB, NBA, and NFL)
Shane
2. wayne gretzky
3. well ME!
Who is Wellme? Never heard of him.
Just add to the above lists.
Yeah, and he had sex with 10.,000 + women. This guy was a machine
Beisbol ben berry berry good to me.
2. Babe Didrickson Zaharias
3. Michael Jordan (athletic ability is only part of my criteria, Jordan's mental strength is akin to Tiger Wood's imo)
You didn't specify gender so the BDZ HAS to be a part of the list
Jim Thorpe probably second.
The two Babes tied for third: Babe Ruth & Babe Didrickson Zaharias.
My darkhorse best athlete of all-time would be Bruce Li. If you ever get a chance to see a movie they show on AMC, it is a movie they found that he was working on at the time of his death... The movie is called The Game of Death. Awesome Bruce Li fights involving bamboo pole fights, numchakus and a fight against none other that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Jabbar knows karate/gung fu a lot more than I ever knew--he was a student of Bruce Li's.
These three are all favorites of mine but I'd never consider them for all time best athlete:
Michael Jordan couldn't get out of A or AA ball...baseball is a much harder sport to play.
Ali was the greatest but only in boxing...which is a helluva sport to be the master of.
Gretzky's the best hockey player ever but not athlete.
Wilt Chamberlin was an awesome athlete, I'd rate him above the previous three with Ali closest to him. Wilt's prowess with the ladies is a record I'm in awe of.
Deion Sanders? Bo Jackson was much better for his short career.
Decathletes, such as Bruce Jenner or Jackie Joyner-Kersee are probably much higher on this theoretical list than we are giving them credit for.
1. 7-17-81 Warrenton GC Driver 310 yards 7th Hole (Par 4)
2. 5-22-99 Warrenton GC 6 iron 189 yards 10th Hole
3. 7-23-99 Oak Meadow CC 5 iron 180 yards 17th Hole
4. 9-19-99 Country Lake GC 6 iron 164 yards 15th Hole
5. 8-30-09 Country Lake GC Driver 258 yards 17th Hole (Par 4)
Collector of Barber Halves, Commems, MS64FBL Frankies, Full Step Jeffersons & Mint state Washington Quarters
The better approach is to go by Sport and by decade and choose 5-10 per sport for the decade. After all, I recall that Arnold Palmer was named the athlete of the 1960's but no one has made reference to him or any golfer for that matter... what about Sam Snead?
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.

Didn't the Goat die a year or two ago. What was the name of the movie about him?
