Heritage Light Backs

good? bad? who cares?

It appears to me that they are part of the set now, as the numbers they are coming form are the same. So far I have 96 different ones. They
seem to get more numerous the lower you get in the set. I have now altered my excel checklist to inlcude both variations in my set. These
don't effect any of the sp's so this shouldn't add too much more cost into the set, just a matter of tracking them down. They seem to come
spuractically, 5 to a pack. Two of my boxes had none in them so they aren't in ever box. Anyone with anymore observations? John, can you
post your list of light backs again.

box of hobby, no white backs at all for me.
  • I have opened 4 cases. I received the cases from distributers in Florida, California and Minnisota. I did not pull any light back variations. I also talked to two different representatives of Topps and they were not aware of any light back variations. They said the only variations were the SP variations. Did you pull the light back cards from the same case?

Kevin--- Came across only box that I have opened with the white backs. It contained 49 of these cards; 10,22,24,27,29,36,37,43,45,48,53,54,65,67,68,84,86,93,123,124,138,162,165,178,190,202,207,209,221,249,256,267,279,297,304,316,318,321,334,336,340,344,366,367,369,379,388,390,and397. There is a definite difference in the stock color-- not a light gray but white. Have checked my 1956 vintage set. White back cards are found sporadically within the set, with the last white back being #97. There are four numbers in the vintage set and Heritage Set with the white backs--37,43,67,and 68. I have no idea if this intentional or not. However it is odd that previous years of Heritage had zero back variations but this one does as did the vintage set in 1956. Craig
  • i just culled all the light backs from my case break, i have over 200 i'm going to list the #'s sometime today. i WILL be including these in my master set. at this point i'm wondering if it will be possible to make a base set with all light backs. not one sp or variation that i've pulled has a light back.

I opened a case, no back variations. The case came from GA. (Kuhlman)

Personally I don't care about the backs on the '56 set, let alone this one. Just a different stock as far as I'm concerned.

It looks like highend has the definate list here. I have checked my numbers and they were all on there. Also the same Craig's numbers.
Highend did have one sp listed...296. Is that right?

It looks like the set just got bigger!

    Kevin
  • I have quite a few here in KS.
Think this is just a paper stock thing?

    image
  • My numbers match up with the other numbers, now the question is are there grey versions and white versions of each card..
    image
  • JS- the santana card is a variation, my light back is the non-variation.
  • These cards are based on the 1956 Topps Set Right? The 56 Topps cards 1-180 Had a Gray cardstock and a White cardstock verisions.

I will be including the light backs too in my master set.

For those who really want them....we need to contruct a master list of them..and do your best to try and trade our double light backs to others so we can get as much of the set as possible.

They do appear to only be certain numbers...so if you pull alot of them..you should have some duplicates to trade.
  • BasiloneBasilone Posts: 2,492 ✭✭

    JoeStalin-

Did you check my list that I posted here and Beckett over against Highends? Were all of mine included in his list?
  • joestalinjoestalin Posts: 12,473 ✭✭
yes, as it stands right now high end's list is the official list. He is the only one right now who has a complete master set of
light backs. It appears that you have to get lucky, because the guy over on beckett who ripped 4 cases didn't get one light
    back!

I am about 15 cards shy of the LB set, and I have no doubles. It will be interesting what retail will yield. It is also interesting that
topps told someone on the phone that all the cards had the light back variation, when up until now that is clearly not the case.
It looks like we here on this boards are ahead of everyone at beckett or topps! Nice work guys!

The minute I have doubles I will post them. So I had two boxes here in jacksonville with no LB's, and my two Kuhlmann boxes had
a bunch. So did all the boxes send from Chris have LB's in them?? I had two of them...

good eye, 28 should be on it, I have that one.

  • i have a 29 , no 28. after i pick the cards that i'm putting in my set i'll post the leftovers.

  • i'm confused, should 28 be on the list....jim
  • joestalinjoestalin Posts: 12,473 ✭✭
I don' t have the card but that doesn't mean anything. Im basing this one on the cards that you have.

    Kevin
  • ok, i'll add 29 tom gordon, for now i'll leave 28 off unless someone has one.

    im confused.

JoeStalin..you just said you had #28:

<< <i>good eye, 28 should be on it, I have that one. >>

do you or dont you have that card?
  • Just to be perfectly clear, do you all have dark back variations of the cards you're listing as the white backs? Or just a white back version? Thanks. I've got a bunch but they don't have a dark back version that I have.

sorry, I don't have 28 and it shouldn't be on the list...unless someone has it.

The list includes all the white backs that have been reported. I haven't checked if all those also have regular backs.

    Kevin

  • I have 2 of the Kuhlmann boxes as well and I got quite a few light backs in them. Late last week I got 3 boxes out of Florida with no light backs whatsoever. Once I sort them I will compare against Highend's list and see if I have any he doesn't already have.

Opened another box, and this contained 48 white backs. There are no additional numbers that I uncovered that are not previously listed in Highland's list. Craig (86nova)

My boxes from Chris contained zero light cards.

Also, of interest, the 2nd 1/1 has surfaced - the first was Rickenbacker and now Warren:

It will be interesting to track them just to see what the final sale will be.

I remember someone on beckett saying that there were 120 total. im not sure if this is true or not. Thanks for the info!

PS I might be getting somemore boxes tomorrow but they were from the non-white back cases, so I might wait. I would rather get
some boxes that had them in it than not.

The attention span of the Beckett board is about 5 minutes. Most of those guys will be talking about this weeks release and totally forget about Heritage by Wed.

This IS the place for serious Heritage collectors.
  • i agree with john, the heritage geeks over here will figure it out.

I busted the 2 Kuhlmann boxes today. I pulled a total of 105 "light backs" from 2 boxes.

No new additions to the master list...it still remains at 116.

The only problem with pulling "light backs" is that it makes the coalation of the boxes pretty horrible.

For example, in 2 boxes, I pulled 4 David Bell "light backs" and 4 Mark Bellhord "light backs", 3 Coco Crisps, etc. etc.

Pulling alot of light backs really reduces the amount of DIFFERENT cards one pulls in boxes.

If you stack the cards with all the backs facing the same way then slightly shift the cards you can see noticable differences. You have only
opened 3 boxes so far so I wouldn't worry!

Funny you should say JoeStalin. I opened another box and found quite a handful of them....and I have more than half of what I pulled not on this list. Im figuring they have the entire run below 398 in light backs. Anyway, if any of you are interested, here are the new light backs that are not on the previous list.
