  • Herb I like it. Is it a over date there looks like there is a 7 under the 8.

It is and it is worth more than the plain 1818 Bust half.

Bust halves are like Morgans but cooler. (yeah, i said it). There's a million different varieties and ways to collect them, and everyone should have at least one.

They are also in my opinion one of the better looking coins in circulated condition (along with shield nickels).

Yours is a good honest wear gray example, and congratulations on your first bust half! Start reading and researching about them, and you'll be addicted forever.

You paid within ten bucks of what its worth one way or the other - so rest assured you didn't over spend. 65 bucks for 187 year old coin that pretty much carried the economy back then is not bad!

Nice collectible coin. You got lots to talk about there. A nice overdate plus well fatigued dies with those stretched out star points towards the rim. That makes the coin interesting when showing it and explaining its look to friends and family. I like coins that can be used to illustrate parts of our coin making history...and this coin serves nicely to illustrate at least two of those facets of coin making.
