I bought this 1884-CC yesterday at my local coin shop. When I got home I inspected it with my 10X loupe. I found a repuched 18 in the date 1884. There are several die cracks on the reverse. I was very happy to find these. I think die cracks and other die varieties are interesting. Can someone who has a VAM books or someone who knows about VAMS help me out and tell me the VAM on this 1884-CC. Thanks.
Obverse: 18 is repuched in 1884
Reverse: Several die cracks. Die crack going through Dollar, die crack from the N in ONE going through all the words until the first S in STATES. If you need more pics to identify it please tell me?

Your photo of the date is a little blurry but looks like it may be a VAM-2 Obverse (Doubled 18 Top)
Please check the Reverse to see if there is any doubling of the first C<--C on the left inside. There aren't any references to the die breaks on the Rreverse in the VAM encyclopedia 4th edition.
I will PM you on some other VAM diagnostics for 18 Doubling.
Terry
Edited...I meant right inside of the first C
If I only had a dollar for every VAM I have...err...nevermind...I do!!

First C in CC looks doubled
Die crack through DOLLAR
Of course, of the Hundreds of Thousands minted, who can tell how many exist after the Pitman Act melted down over 270 million silver dollars and in what condition ones like yours exist. Also since yours is a GSA Morgan (I'm assuming from the material holding the coin in the holder), the rarity among those from the GSA hoard may make yours more valuable as well.
The die breaks around the Reverse weren't called out in the VAM description but to me and other VAM collectors this would be a "plus" above the normal "Interest Factor" compared to a "Normal" VAM-2.
