no qualifiers question

I read in another thread that someone wrote "no qualifiers" across the top of their submission form. Does this work? Does PSA give you an 8 instead of a 9(OC) or is this BS?

Getting my Feb. special together with some nice 63 Topps hockey.
Cards are gem but borderline OC calls on alot of them.

Thanks, Bob

    That's how it's done.
Just remember that the card's grade goes down to whatever grade for centering it qualifies for.

    So, a 9(OC) could turn into an 8, a 7, a 6 or whatever ...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it true that if a card is 9 with 8 centering, that PSA is more prone to slab it as an 8 rather than a 9 o/c nowadays?

Thought a 9OC was counted the same as a 7?

  • I always request NQ on my submissions.

A 9OC counts as a 7 as far as the registry goes.A 9OC with a NQ request would grade an 8

Please be kind to me. Even though I'm now a former postal employee, I'm still capable of snapping at any time.

It would grade an 8 so long as it meets the centering requirements of an 8, which aren't all that different from a 9. A 9 card with 90/10 centering becomes a 3 with no qualifiers.

  • Thanks guys,

So I should just write "NO QUALIFIERS PLEASE" across the top of the submission form?

    Anywhere special?

    Thanks, Bob

  • They are correct. If a PSA 9 has a qualifier and you don't want a qualifier then card will drop 1-3 grades. Everything depends on the qualifier and how bad it is. Many gretzky rookies have the 9 (PD) qualifier. I called PSA because i purchased one the Gretzky cards with the PD qualifier and could not find a print defect. They asked me if the front of the card had 2 thick blue lines going down the card? Basiclly it is 2 lines a little different colour blue then the rest of the card. The answer was yes. This was the PD qualifier. I think basiclly all Gretzky Rc's have this but some are more noticable then overs. They couldn't tell me over the phone how many grades it would lower it without seeing it but they said that more then likely it would only be one grade.

i always put "no qualifiers" on my submissions also.. last time it resulted in a card getting a 6 instead of an 8 or 9, but i knew it was way o/c..

  • What happens if you put "No Qualifiers" across the top of the form and PSA gives you qualifiers anyway? Has this happened to any of you?

  • I have had this happen. After seeing the grades with qualifiers, I emailed customer service and made them aware of the mistake. They promptly re-slabed and regraded the cards with no problems.
