Multicolored 1879-P Morgan PCGS MS64 possiable (crackout)upgrade to MS65

I strongly believe it will upgrade to PCGS MS65 if it is cracked out. It takes a $800 price jump from MS64 to MS65. I just need to get the nerve to crack it out.

I wouldn't. Not enough original luster on the obverse. Just my opinion though. Go for it if you choose.

The luster is plenty original on the obverse, I'm just not sure it's that great to start with. It might benefit from an acetone bath, but the reverse is pretty chopped up--although not in the prime focal area. It won't 63, so why not--there's a big jump in value just because it's a nice toner if in a GEM holder.

I just had two nice toned Morgans upgrade from old NGC MS64 slabs to PCGS MS65s after cracking, but there's always a risk. On the same submission I had a 1935 Walking Liberty go from MS64 to AU58 which it isn't. It's off to NGC for that one.

I really love this coin, but with a $800 price jump I might have to sell it if it MS65s.

Gat....you are right once you crack a coin all bets are off. Still I can't see PCGS ever grading this coin any lower than a MS64. With that in mind there is little risk in cracking and resubitting this coin. imo
