Nashua show report

I attended the Nashua show this morning and am happy to report.
I showed up around 9:30, took a short break at 10:30 and stayed
till about 12:00. The show was very well attended during this time.
There was little thinning of the crowds even into midday and not a
single dealer was seen packing up. As usual I started the hunt at
Ron's Coins and he had a nice Peace dollar for me in 64 or 65
condition which I will submit for grading. I mentioned to him that a
coind he sold me over year ago goot BB'ed at PCGS for cleaning (it
was a 1909-S/S Lincoln in 60RB+). He (as well as I) was surprised by
this and immediately offered to buy the coin back. I told him I wanted
to wait to get the coin back and that in any case I'm not too sure
I want to sell it back to him (note I said sell, not return as I
think PCGS may have been overly conservative. Ron is still one of
the best dealers for my money (and I have no hesitation to give
him free advertising).
My primary reason for going to the show was to look for short-set
Walkers to help complete my PCGS-65 short set. The total # of
coins that would qualifiy for this, in the whole show, was less than
a dozen. I looked at a 44 in a NGC-65 holder which was selling for
$170. I passed due to the price and I was not 100% sure it would
cross. I also looked at a 41-D in NGC-65 that I think has a good
chance at crossing. It was selling for $550. One dealer I spoke to
said the lack of good Walkers was due to the recent collapse in
prices: nobody wants to hold them. Interesting, considering that
there was no material to be found. In short, I think short set 50c
will bounce back very nicely and its already evident is the show's
prices. It will be interesting to see what's available at the
Westford show.
The same was true for the two other types I collect: Mercuries and
Peace dollars. Very few 65 Peace dollars at the show (even in
common dates). I purchased a couple of 65FB short set Mercury
dimes to add to the hoard. And my last buy was an '05 SAE as I
was walking out the door. I guess I had to spend my allowance
somewhere.
There seemed to be more paper currency at this show than I last
recall. I bumped into an old salt (Yankee old salt, sporting the Ahab
beard and all) who was buying a $1 green seal for $20. I asked him
why anyone would pay $20 for a $1 bill and offered him a few out
of my wallet. It turns out his $1 had a gutter in it (a fold which was
not printed on) and was a nice error. Seeing I was interested he
went into his jacket and pulled out a old yellowed bank note (pre-
1860s) to show me. He said he was selling it, if I had $200K to
spend. He pointed to the serial # on the note and it was indeed
serial number 1. Very cool. One of these days I'd like to learn more
about paper.

If you're refering to Ron Menard (I think that's his last name), he is a good guy! I've bought from him a number of times, and today (for the first time) he just bought a BOAT LOAD of the raw Merc's I had. He got a steal on some of them ... and you might see them in his case at the next show
PQPeace (Larry), I was trying to hunt down a 26-S for you. I talked to a guy who thought he had a 63FB back at the shop?? I got his card and will contact him tomorrow to see if he does. Although, a 63FB might be a bit beneath your standards You can have it though, if he does have it and you wind up wanting it.
It was a great show!
so anyone interested can get together for a little forum meeting. I will
also probably be at the Westford show.
Please check out my eBay auctions!

I think after LB and Baltimore things should settle down with the grading.
BigGreek -- good idea on the huddle up at the next Nashua show
Another dealer needed one more coin to fill a submission to PCGS, so I'll get one coin I can do without for the summer. Although, judging by some of the more recent threads, the turnaround times at PCGS might be getting better.
Mercurydimeguy, I believe I was at a table you were at as I remember someone next to me mentioning a '26-s Merc. I'll try to remember your face at the next Nashua show, and introduce myself.
I usually set up at the Westford Ma. show, but will NOT have my usual table this month.
Maybe I'll see everyone in Boston next month?
As everyone mentioned above, it was extremely busy, and very similar to what we saw in Auburn Ma. last week. With a two week push on Commem's in the Greysheet, they seemed to be mentioned quite a bit on the floor.
I did find a very "neat", or "cool" coin box (similar in style to a Lexington Commem sliding box, but not made of wood) with a Strafford National Bank, Dover N.H. inscription on it. The inside was velvet lined and held a VERY nice looking 1904 Morgan. I'm probably going to submit the Morgan and haven't quite decided what to do with the box, as of yet. It's definitely cool, to me anyway. Another dealer mentioned seeing them before, but usually holding a gold coin inside. I'm going to do a bit more research on the item before I do anything with it, so if anyone might have any information, please feel free to Pm me. I can get some pic's done as well.
I passed on quite a few "deals", as I'm not going to be around for the next show, and didn't want to tie up money in inventory that wasn't going to be doing anything. Good stuff is out there. You have to hunt for it a bit, but it's there.
I did chat with the usual suspects: Toneddollars, Tonelover and Sadysta1. Outhaul was among the missing, so maybe sailing season started early.
