This has got to be one of the worst auctions i have seen in a while:
"Super 1889 S Morgan from my Grandfather's estate. There is some wear , but still a nice Morgan. It was catalogued ms 60/62 by the former owner now deceased. However, this was his opinion only and THIS COIN HAS NOT BEEN PROFESSIONALLY GRADED.Please judge for yourself by the pictures and bid accordingly. As always, no reserve and low start. As this is an estate sale, ALL SALES ARE FINAL. Happy Bidding"
Whats even better is the title of the auction:
"Sharp 1889 S Morgan Dollar from Estate
PCGS lists MS 60 $180 MS 62 $250 MS 63 $435"
Brain fart

Where's the link? Sounds like a case of simple, all-too-common ignorance, from somebody who knows nothing about coins (or chooses to imply that).
"Some" wear. "MS62".
Dealers, how many noncollecting folk bring Morgans into your shop (or call and tell you about them, sight unseen), and have no clue what you mean when you ask about the mintmark?

Probably true, but we can't ask him, because he's dead. But sheeesh, was he also blind?

No kidding though folks, I just noticed that the bid in the auction was $13 and some change. Does anyone have a greysheet listing for an 89 S in VG-8.
If you can get past that nose bugger. Damaged coin IMO.

Now about the former owner calling it a 62, I believe the seller meant the former owner that picked up the coin from the mint back in 1889.

Maybe he got it as an MS62 and due to his blindness and fondness for coins, which he handled each day....he wore it into a VG??????? sort of a blind mans pocket piece?????
Nice 1890 Carson City from my Grandfather's estate. This coin does show some wear, but is still a fine Morgan. I would say this is AU.
