The legend in the center of the reverse is something about the completion of 200 money machines, or perhaps the 200th anniversary of the completion of the money machine. Since the date is far too early for an ATM, maybe it has something to do with the introduction of the coining press to Germany. Or not.
These things happened on the dates mentioned on the obverse:
October 5, 1837 Hortense de Beauharnais, French queen of Netherlands (1806-10), dies at 54
November 25, 1805 Opera "Thais" 1st American performance
June 3, 1764 Hans A Brorson, Danish poet/bishop of Ribe, dies at 69
None of those things seem to be related to the medal or Germany, but I thought they were interesting.
This is a medallion commemorating Diedrich Uhlhorn and his son Heinrich Uhlhorn who were both inventors. Dedrich Uhlhorn invented a new type of minting press that gave him international notoriety. The first major improvement of his innovation was the creation of a press that could more easily be driven by steam. The second major improvement was the knuckle mechanism of the Münzprägemaschine (knuckle-lever press), which enabled the strike pressure of a coin press to be steadied, producing coins with considerably similar strikes. The press used a pendulum movement from a sway lever, which caused the top die to move up and down. With the ability to strike 30 to 60 coins per minute, depending on the size of the coin, this press became quite successful in Europe and abroad with over 500 presses sold by 1840 in cities like Berlin, Utrecht, Vienna, Munich, Karlsruhe, Schwerin, Naples, Australia, and Philadelphia. Most of Ulhorn’s machines had a life span of well over 100 years.
The front of the medallion states the birth date of Heinrich 25 Nov 1805 and the birth and death of Diedrich Born 3 Jun 1764 died 5 Oct 1837 along with their busts. In the center of the reverse it is commemorating the completion of or placement of 200 coin embossing machines. The rim pay tribute to Diedrich Uhlhorn inventor of the coin embossing machine.
As far as value of this medallion I wouldn't know Marty.
