Newbie question about toning

What causes this toning? See the link below.....

1933S Walker

I'm just curious as I just picked up this 1943D walker in a MS66 holder this week at what I think is a big discount and it appears to have some of the same type of obverse toning. The reverse has none at all. Forget that I really don't have a great digital camera to take pics.

    Looks like a purty good picture to me.

    What causes toning? A variety of things in the environment, notably sulfur.
