Does a bear fart in the woods?

  • I don't know. I never smelled a bear fart, not even Yogi's.

no not a chance as they are running low bc of the demand!
  • the case prices usually level out to about 400.00, close to what you pay if you buy early on pre-sell. i got 2 cases for 850.00 this year. 2001 cases are the exception the go for considerably more.

if you wait until next November when football is really strong, you might be able to steal a case on ebay, but don't count on
    it.

Not talking extremely short term, but does anyone see these prices rising after 3-6 months of issue? I am not an expert on the set, but very curious as I have not invested in a "modern" issue in a long time. From what I've read in other threads, the poker is hot at time of issue on inserts, SP's, etc... Basis experienced collectors, do cases/boxes become bullish or bearish after 3 months? Regards.

  • I will play Devil's Advocate here. Just think, if Topps got Greedy and overproduced (unbeknownst to dealers and collectors) Heritage product similar to 2001 Uper Deck Golf, you know what would happen.

    Kevin,

What are those boxes you have in the pic. Are they 2005 Topps heritage? Hobby or retail box?

keep in mind the autograph odds in UD golf were1:3000 packs and all the autos were un-numbered!! That should set off bells
for you. Heritage is a product that can't be over-produced without the consumer knowing.

Simple math puts the print run of 2005 heritage at 1.5 million packs or 62,500 boxes or roughly 7800 cases. By todays standards
that is limited. I make such a big deal about the autos because that is the only factor keeping the production in check. I figured
out the print runs in 2001 and I came up with the same print run..1.5mil

Remember that the auto odds were 1:142 back in 01 and now there are 1:333...you would think that would open the door to
over production but it hasn't, topps has kept the pull rates, and set size of the chromes the same since its intorduction which
leaves us at the same print run. Also keep in mind that there were less bonus pulls in 01..they had one chrome set numbered to
    552. no chromes 1952 or black chromes 52.

Now I would rather have softer autos odds than more chromes, but topps did give collectors something to make up for it. The chrome
set is popular every year, so those are worth just as much as the base sp's.

Could topps be bracing for 2006? Everyone knows the rookie class in the 57 set is amazing...topps will have to add those guys in and
that will cost. If they are going raise production or lower the real one auto runs, then next year would be the year.

Im hoping Ill get my boxes today!

JS, I thought you had your boxes.
  • JS, based upon your statisitcs, how many of each of the Short Printed cards of the master base set would you say there are?
  • i agree , next years heritage will be wildly popular, the 57 set is favorite of many collectors. i think alot of guys held out on this in anticipation of the 06.
i'm excited that next years auto's should feature brooks robinson and don drysdale, kubek , bobby richardson and rocco colavito (not that i'll pull any) frank robinson had his debut in 56 so i guess that's why he was included in the signings this year.
as a hardcore heritage collector and a 57 topps lover i plan to buy a minimum of 3 cases, i want to complete an entire master set including the all chromes, clubhouse collection etc. and plan to buy as many autos as i can find.
topps can redeem themselves in a big way next year, and after that the 58's!!

print run on the sp's is a little more than 6800 a card
  • JS, Heritage is quite a concept and it was a great idea Topps came up with. With all the modern crap out there this product truly stands out, and I would think since the product is some what limited that it will at least hold it's value. Although, it's nothing like having 6,800 2005 Topps Heritage Jeter's in at least mint condition vs. a handful of 1956 Mickey Mantle cards in the same shape. How many people do you think are going to take that Jeter SP and put it in their bicycle spokes? LOL. Slice it anyway you want, but modern stuff, even limited like the Yankee Master Collections and Heritage are "manufactured" collectibles.

There's very little anymore that isn't a 'contrived' collectible. Keeping the Heritage set in perspective - IMO, it's a "collector" and not an investor set.

Vintage meets modern, affordability means fun....enjoyment is the 'end' to the means and along the way you get this really cool complete set that you can look at when you are gumming your Doritos and suckin down Buds down in Clearwater, Fla on the boardwalk with the rest of the collectors. image

There are a lot of posts for 2005 Topps. It is hard to keep up if its not all centralized.
