The ETHICAL way to sell ntc slabs on ebay!

This is the actual disclaimer used by a member of the ANA in his auction of a NTC MS65 Morgan. Even though, he is selling it, this person is looking out for our hobby and should be commended!

"Disclaimer: Please Read before Bidding"

"All coin grading is subjective and subject to varied opinion between professional graders and individuals. Grading services use varied standards to assign technical grades, therefore NO GUARANTEE expressed or implied can be given that a coin will receive the same grade assigned when submitted at another grading service. 3rd party graded encapsulated coins are believed original authentic and widely accepted within industry standards. It is the buyers responsibility to investigate the reputation of each grading service and become familiar with various price sheets in order to determine a coins true value. Graded, encapsulated coins are not returnable as they are already graded and very clearly described in the listing." image

EBay sellers that do not enlighten the uneducated (the people that buy this stuff) are sleaze, period!

I just throw in a bonus coin everytime i sell an NTC, cuase I know people will be dissapointed. I also tell them how I think it would really grade...seems to work. No complaints yet.

Rather than use a lot of legalese, I would just state the NTC grade, and then state the grade that I really believe for the coin. I wouldn't use any pcgs price guide information, and I would mention the improbability that it would cross into another holder. But at least this seller is on the right track....

  • And that same disclaimer should be used when selling PCGS, NGC, ANACS, ICG or any other slabbed coins as well.

If you will note it has been written so that it can be used no matter what services coins are being sold.

The only ethical way to sell NTC slabs is to not sell them at all. Even with a disclaimer, one is still participating in the fraud that company perpetrates on the hobby.

    Yep, you got that right!

Also, the disclaimer is inaccurate as well. The TPG's do not assign technical grades, they assign market grades.

So you see no problem with selling a coin with NO return privilege just because it has been slabbed regardless of the company?? I thought the ANA required that a return privilege be offered for all coin sales by ANA dealers, especially on sight unseen sales?? (maybe someone can confirm this) A better idea would be for buyers to learn a little about what they are purchasing before they shell out their money. There is a reason for the old saying BUY THE BOOK BEFORE THE COIN, it is the only smart way to start a collection.
