Franklin Cameo question - new to the forum

Hello all, I'm a newbie to the forum, but enjoy your posts and reactions. I've got a question on Franklin Cameo Proofs.
I'm building a min PF66 set, picked up a 1962 Franklin PF67 Ultra Cameo on Teletrade. When I read Rick Tomaska's book and NGC's pop report I'm happy with the coin.
Here's the question, after looking at realized prices on Heritage auction, it looks as though PCGS Cameo Franklins sell for nearly double the NGC coins.
I'm considering submitting this coin to PCGS for regrading. I'd appreciate any opinions. (Hopefully the coin pic loads okay).

Obverse looks good to me, but we have to see the reverse. Can you post a pic?

IMHO it wouldn't get a DCAM grade from PCGS on an average day image. Possible, but from what I've seen in DCAM it's gotta have a lot thicker frost.

If the image of the obverse is an accurate representation, I don't think the coin would make it in to a DCAM holder at PCGS. The frost on the devices does not appear white enough.

  • Here is the Reverse, I'm still working on coin photography. I'm using a Olympus C-4000 but want to get a copystand so I don't have to juggle the camera and lights, but that's a different story.
  • That is good to know, you guys may have saved me a submission fee, I'll pas it by my local dealer of some renown for another view, but thanks.
  • try posting the rev again.

To be honest, I don't know how anyone could give you an accurate answer with the one photo that has been posted. The pic is too small and unclear to really know for sure- it doesn't look like it would get into a dcam holder, but better pics would be needed to really give you a fair answer....

  • I'll post the reverse this time image
  • Might cross @ 67 CAM no DCAM

    Save the BUX !

Look at the price guide and buy what you like as cheap as you can buy em !

NGC coins sell for about 10-30 % of the PCGS guide.

PCGS coins are 20-50 % of the guide, unless the coin is exceptional and or low pop, then it may go over guide.

No DCAM. See how weak the frost is on the word half, the lower part of the bell, the top right of the wood thingy holding the bell....

I agree with the others that the coin will not DCAM at PCGS but it is still a nice coin.

On a more positive note I would just like to say

    image to the boards.

I agree with what has been posted so far. Save your money - the obverse is borderline dcam at best and the reverse won't make it at PCGS.

Nice coin though - I love those cameo Franklins. image

It is way too hard to tell from the pictures posted! Depending on what lights were used the frost could be washed out. Next big show take it to PCGS and ask David Hall.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!
