Got my new copy stand today

I used a Testrite stand for the last couple of years. It worked great for digicams with built in lenses, but I discovered the DSLRs were just too heavy for that stand. After a lot of research, I decided on the Bencher Copymate II with quartz copy lights. I've just now finished putting it together, and I'm very impressed with the construction, and the very sturdy camera carriage. I need to make a few adjustments, and will do some coins a little later this evening.

Nice looking setup. What range of motion does it have?

Are you asking about the camera carriage or the lights? The lights can be adjusted up and down, and they are so bright that is all that is really needed. As far as the camera carriage, it can be moved in or out at about six inches. I will say that this is a pleasure compared to the Testrite having to tighten up a nylon bolt up against the pole.

Can you tilt the camera at all? I hooked up a tripod head to my testrite stand so I can tilt the camera at any angle if need be.

That price is for everything, the stand and the quartz lights.

Nope, no tilt ability. What I do is use one of those "hand savers" for doing angled images.

I meant to get back to your PM Lee. Did you check the tracking number? What does it say? Might be what happened to me a few weeks ago, they put my package on the wrong truck.
  • Nice looking set-up, Eric.

Thanks Herb. Now if I could only pinpoint the right settings to use with these lights. I'm not doing too good so far.
  • I agree. That's quite an impressive looking setup. I thought you did pretty well with the old setup. I look forward to seeing what you can do now.

Thanks David. I almost forgot to add the part about the end table. I knew my folding tables wouldn't be good for this stand, so after I bought it I took down the dimensions of the baseboard and went down to the unfinished furniture store. Got that end table that fits perfectly. It's made out of solid oak and weighs 70lbs. Got it for $110, which is a good buy for solid oak.

Nice shot! Are you done with the Sylvania lights so soon, or are you going back to them?

To tell you the truth, I'm not too impressed with these quartz lights. The nice thing about this stand is that it is on two inch feet, so using four clamp on desk lamps with the Sylvania bulbs will be no problem, and I'm about at that stage now.
