Relayer gets a 69-S Kennedy back in PR66 and I get a 69DCAM, he can't figure out why.

Here is the tale of the coins...

#1 Frost Breaks, the coin is a CAM
#2 No field depth
#3 Haze on the coin (takes away from #2)
#4 Crap on the coin

Now I understand why you're getting these kind of grades if your submitting this kind of trash! I think the only reason that PCGS didn't grade it PR66CAM is because of the haze. I think with a good bath, the coin would grade 67CAM/68CAM on a good day. There is a spot by the I in LIBERTY that I don't think will come off. Take a look at the pictures, your coin and one of my 69DCAMs. They were taken with the same light. This is what PCGS wants to see.

Believe me, that is not what it takes. It helps, but does not magically convert a coin to PR69UCAM!

Not, bragging, but I've been getting my fair share of 69UCAM's lately, and not just Kennedys! You need to know what cinstitutes a great coin from a common one!image

then please let us in on what it takes to 69+ cam at either tpg. i'm sitting on a massive amount yet to be graded and am really afraid of the outcome - sending $30+ to have tpg'd is somewhat crazy only to have it bagged or worse way lower than expected.

What it takes is countless hours of learning what to be looking for. I can't sit here and describe the difference of 69UCAM to 68UCAM to you. It's something you need to learn from trial and error.

Maybe you would benefit, if Marty would allow you, to send a few of the coins you determine to be your best, along to NGC on a bulk submission. That was one of the ways I learned.

I have two frosty white 1969-S Kennedy here right now, niether is going in. They are dead nuts DCAMs, but one has a few hairlines and the other has a spot in the frost. Both would grade 67DCAM at best. Send Cameron a PM, I'm sure he can put you together a nice grading set of proof kennedys.

  • I sold this set on ebay the other day. It went to a forum member whom I told upon inquiry that it would do no better tham 68 UCAM. He just wanted a great UCAM example to teach his children with!

  • One of these you forget to mention Marty and the quantity of coins/sets needed to cheery out a POP top. Although a single set/roll in the end does lead to a high end coin you typically have to go through gobs of them to find a great coin.

So very true!!! I have been though thousands of proof sets, lots of times I buy them and when I get them home into the resale pile they go...

Actually that coin came From this submission I posted about here (the $75 worth of coins plus $444 in grading fees = $75 worth of coins thread)

I kept the 1967 25c SMS MS67CAM and four of the worst coins for a giveaway and wholesaled the rest out to a forum member.

Since Marty enjoyed my submission I sent him the PR66, not to compare my worst dog to his best gem, but I said it looked cameo (or Cameo-like) and he could crack it out and dip it and get a 69DCAM.

Even the 1971-S PR66 in the giveaway looks like a Cameo-like coin (but even from the mile high photo I see haze on it!)

Not so much on the 1969, but like clackmas and Marty said, these are tough date modern coins to find gems in and you have to look at tons of sets to find them.

My last submissions I threw together before the price increase, but then over the holidays I had some time to go through some more boxes (and maybe haved dipped one or two image ) so I have some more that Marty just added to his page and hopefully will work out a little better.

And sometimes you do this on purpose image If a coin is close, Marty'll take it home, and even if it doesn't cut it, he'll throw it on EBay, and let other people take a crack at it image
