1976-D triple strike nickle, double date (Full), Found in mint bag, placed in a plastic sleve and carried in a wallet.
Someone walked up to me and pulled this from his wallet. Told me someone offered him 200 for it, I was wondering what the value actually is.
Here is the second strike with the full date
Here is the third strike, of which may be a smash from the second hit... But I think it is a third strike.
Thanks in advance,
Ray

<< <i>Did it look like a true doubled-or in this case tripled die and not just strike doubling(tripling)? >>
Oh no, there was a second hit low and tot he right I believe, it looked like the metal was smeared off into another coin, the date was an entirely different date. The third hit was just s smidge but was still a hit.
I'll try to get a picture this week.
let me see if I can find something like it, I think LALASD4 has one like it.

But the date was full on the pulled out piece and the date wasfull on the regular coin.

Now, if I understand correctly, you said that there were two different dates on the coin?
If this is all correct, AND THE COIN IS AUTHENTIC, then you are looking at a coin worth well more than $200.00. If indeed a two different date coin, I would suggest arouind $1,000.00. Plus or minus a couple of hundred, of course.
The key to this whole thing is whether or not the coin is genuine.
I'm determined to get a pic this week
I'll show you all asap
Thanks for the input,
Ray
OK, before you all complain about the quality of the pics, I did not have the Macro lens but you should get the jist....
See you tonight,
