HERITAGE FOLK Please explain retail vs hobby

Include discussion of where the diffrent boxes are sold, what about these "blister packs". How have the odds been through the years between hobby and retail, and why is there a diffrence. Please also discuss about the box toppers. Were those only available in "hobby" boxes. I know there are none this year, but curious. What happen last year when the dealers were complaining about "seeding" of SP's. I have been reading all the Heritage threads so please don't say "use the search feature". I am tempted to buy some even after all the disgruntled thoughts, and the Edward Rickenbacker cut has already been unearthed (who???lol) Should I pay kids in 90 score commons to buy boxes for me? Do any stores limit the amount you can purchase. What if we see pack searchers when we go the the local Walmart? Are we able to kick them in the nuts without recourse?

Kicking a pack searcher sqare in the nuts is always a good practice and should be done without fear of retribution.

Now, on to the less important matters. image
Keep in mind, these have been my observations over the last year or so. I didn't do much with heritage prior to last year. But I ripped a lot of it.

    Years Past...
Hobby-had box toppers, retail did not.
Hobby had better odds on autos/gu etc
Last year, the double headers were the box topper, with the chance of pulling an original 1955 double header besides. Very cool.

Retail-longer odds, no box toppers, pre-priced, more subject to the aforementioned pack searchers.

Booster boxes or whatever you want to refer to them as... are retail only. Locally, I found them at Wal-Mart, Target, Shopko and Toys r Us last year. Target being the real winner. I would imagine the Sams Club, Costco type places probably have them as well. I have had very good luck with all those booster boxes like that though, I usually beat the "odds" they place on the boxes and usually do as well, or better than hobby odds with them.

The SP's, IIRC were seeded the same in hobby & retail last year. 1:2 packs. THe real hype with the booster boxes was that people were getting 1+ sp's, variations and chromes in every pack. I posted on another thread, how my luck with the booster boxes far outweighed my luck with hobby boxes, and for quite a bit less money. Local hobby shops were selling heritage @3.59/pk. the booster boxes were 29.99 for 11 packs (2.72/pk) and you were getting $3+ for every sp in the packs. Many packs yielded 2 "hit" cards. Some cobination of chrome/refractor/auto/insert/sp/var. All of my black refractors and autos were pulled from said booster boxes.

This year, it was supposed to remain about the same. Hobby auto odds were originally listed as 1:163 (slightly better than 1/case) retail was listed at 1:193 (1 pack worse than 1/case <192 packs/case&gtimage The other odds were the same, only other difference was no box topper again in retail and you can't get a cut sig in retail, only hobby. (1:93,000+) Since they pulled the box toppers anyway and the sp odds and auto odds are now the same, there is no real sense in buying hobby cases when you can spend 80-140 less per case and get retail. Now if they only sold booster box cases!

I'm sure others will contribute more info. If you have any questions, this is definitely the place to ask. I'm more than happy to help too.

Wow thanks, explains a lot to me. I guess the way to tell hobby for retail is the pre-priced packs. Now odds are about the same, but look for the booster/blister packs may be a better bagain. I plan on going some raids, too bad MOnday is a holiday, I am sure every pack searcher will be out.

He was an American fighter pilot in WW1....Medal of Honor winner.

Was also president of Eastern Airlines...and Owner of the Indianapolis Speedway

The "Red Baron" was Manfred von Richthofen

    FWIW!
  • He was the very first American fighter Ace. And he drove in the Indy 500. He was shot down in the Pacific during a diplomatic mission in WWII and survived for 26 days on a raft. He's about as Americen as you can get.

There are a lot of posts for 2005 Topps. It is hard to keep up if its not all centralized.
