Are there any physical diff btn mellowing of copper and toning

Is the transition/mellowing from Red to RB and finally to Brown on a coppercoin physically any differant then the reactive process that a silver/copper/gold coin goes through when it tones?

I really do not know that much about toned coins, but most of the ones I've seen appear to dull/hidel the luster, were as I have seen brown cents still exibit a lot of luster over the brown. Just curious and would like to learn some more about copper.

Any opinions/answers would be appreciated.

Oh by the way if this has been talked about before, someone please post me a link to the thread.

Thanks
Ron

  • Good question, with the silver toning threads today, I was wondering this also, and why this coin I just purchased toned this way, and so quickly:

Toning's toning, however dark or mellow it is.
