Ever have a coin bodybag at PCGS, resubmit it and it holders?

I have had no luck in doing this myself.

It happens a lot. I submit very little, so my best example is a coin that was net graded for cleaning at ANACS (AU details, net XF) that became PCGS AU-58.

If I am not mistaken, about a year ago, CoinLieutenant had a coin that was PCGS AU-55, then BB'd at NGC, then BB'd at PCGS, before landing at PCGS in a PCGS AU-58 holder.

A coin expert/dealer/friend recently told me that he thought NGC was stricter with the BB than PCGS in the area of coin damage, for what it's worth.

What I meant was Resubmitting a PCGS bodybagged coin back to PCGS and it holders, not the other grading services.image

My very first coin was BB'd (1883 cent) for questionable color. On second try it went MS-64 RB.

I also had a 1946 Jefferson with 5 steps that had awesome blue toning that was BB'd the first time around. On second try it came back MS-64. I guess the glare of the tone made the graders miss the full steps!image

  • One of the board members had a PCGS bodybag go POP 1 after resubmitting it back to PCGS for the third time. First time it did not cross so he cracked it out received the BB then made the POP 1 on the third try to PCGS.

I had a toned 92 CC come back in a Body Bag for questional toning, Resubmitted the coin and it came back a 64.
If It doesn't have great eye appeal, I don't want it.

I havent myself, but a freind sent in two SLQ with deeply toned surface color, and PCGS BB' them both, so he sent them back in again and one came back Ms-64FH, the other still not. (QT)

  • Yep. It was a great looking large cent that was BB for tooling. After scanning it in enlarging the devices and fields, looking at it with a loop I figured PCGS was crazy, Sent it back in a few weeks later and it was a 64RB. Maybe just a bad day at PCGS. I bought the coin from a great copper guy at the Baltimore show and I had no reservations regarding the grade.

Many many times. The best example that I have is
1926-D standing liberty quarter, from NGC MS62 to PCGS BB (cleaned) to PCGS AU58 to PCGS AU58FH. The coin is a no question ask Full Head coin and it took 4 grading fee to go into a Full Head holder. I guess PCGS/NGC do not like to assign Full Header to tough date SLQs (or they want more $$$ in order to slab it as FH).
