What does it take to get on (and off) an auction company's mailing list?

Reading that Longacre received his Numismatic Sun gave me a jolt of concern. I have not yet received mine. What if I have dropped from the ANR mailing list? I realized that since I purchased a coin at their December Frog's Run sale, that was unlikely. I would be disappointed if I were from their list. The other mailing list that I would like to stay on is the Heritage list. I doubt that I will be a prolific Heritage bidder/buyer going forward, but I do not want to miss out on the action.

If the future DLRC auctions are like the Richmond Collection sale, I will definitely want to be included. Bowers and Merena? I am excited about the SS Republic sale but generally lukewarm on B&M. Their Kingswood catalogs go right to the recycling bin. Superior? They could drop me, and I would not care. I barely browse the catalog. I have never been on the Goldberg list--they apparently sell some nice coins, but so does everyone else. Scotsman? I doubt that I will I ever even go look at the lots again (their storefront is 15 minutes from my house), let alone bid on an auction.

Experienced collectors, what is the key to staying on the list of companies whose catalogs you would like to receive? And what does it take to get booted off the list?

  • It's very simple, just do some significant bids in their auctions. Usually you don't even have to be successful to get on the mailing list.

Most will put you on the mailing list if you fax them a recent invoice showing $ 500 or more in coin purchases or several adding up to $500 or more.

I got on a lot of lists by faxing an invoice for coins that I bought from competitors. Regarding ANR, I wrote an email to QBD because I had a question about one of his books and he forwarded my message to someone on the staff who put me on the mailing list (I didn't even have to ask).
