Well, about to get my first ebay neg as a retaliation...

Someone bid and won a 1979 topps hockey set with the Gretzky, Howe, and Hull graded PSA 8. I sent him 3 invoices and went through ebay as a reminder invoice and have not received payment or any kind of communication. The auction ended on Jan 10. Does everyone agree that I should finally leave him the negative as a non paying bidder? I am sure he will hit me with a retalation negative which really stinks.
What should I do?
Thanks,
Bob

  • im in the exact same situation. Im going to file the non paying bidder and leave it at that. no feedback.

  • The UPI is far worse than the neg. Negs will not get him suspended filing UPIs will. I never leave negs for non paying bidders I just file it and move on. Now if they neg me for filing the UPI I will go ahead and neg them..

    << <i>What is a UPI? >>

UPI = unpaid item. You need to file a claim with ebay which will get you your ending fees on this item refunded. You only have 45 day from ending of auction to make such a claim. ( which i believe in your case is rapdly appraoching)

Go to the ebay site map and find REPORT AN UNPAID ITEM. Instructions will follow. Have the item number handy.

    Collector of:Baseball
1955 Bowman Raw complete with 90% Ex-NR or better

Now seeking 1949 Eureka Sportstamps...NM condition
Working on '78 Autographed set now 99.9% complete -
Working on '89 Topps autoed set now complete

  • I'd say just be sure to point out in your comment to the feedback that it is a retaliation Neg and why you left it.
I think if you stay above 98-99% positive that people regard you as a reliable seller/buyer.

Trivia: what seller has the highest feedback with ZERO negatives? ZERO Negatives or Neutrals?

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

I filed the Unpaid Item about two and a half weeks ago. I did not realize that it also called a UPI. I guess I need to find out how to get back my final value fees now.

I tried that before, but it dosn't close exactly when it is supposed to. You can still access the auction by clicking on the item # on the feedback page.

1967topps- What's the answer on your trivia question? I am curious. I bet someone has about 5,000 without a negative (though probably had some mutually withdrawn?). It's hard to imagine getting higher than that. I am only at 500 and had 1 close call but no neg so far!
  • To get your FVF back you have to go in and close the dispute by saying you no longer wish to communicate with buyer. Your fee will be granted and they will get a strike and 3 of those and they are out.

  • Allen- I think they have closed that loophole to where you cannot leave feedback after 90 days.

  • I have left about 5 negatives for non-paying people. None have left me a negative yet. However, many of these people have "no longer registered" accounts and a couple others got about 10 negatives at once, guess they just stopped paying for anything. I would say leave a negative. Maybe this person won't leave one, perhaps they have vanished from the earth. I agree that if you are at 99%, then people aren't going to care about one negative most likely.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

Have they really closed that 90 day loophole? I wish I could leave a negative at the last minute so the other party won't retaliate.

99% is actually a bad feedback rating. I look for 99.8% or above. The problem is when I go see the negatives, many are not really retaliatory. It is often the seller did not respond to emails, sent item not properly packaged (some items are delicate and need to be package well), uses personal attacks when responding to a negative feedback. I do look at the negatives of a seller and have noticed that when they are below 99.8%, many of them are not clear cut cases of being retaliatory.

Dealing with slabbed baseball cards is easy. Very rarely do they get damaged in the mail. The condition is not questioned since it is graded and the customer could see a picture of it. Other items like old Sansui stereos, action figures, vases, ceramics....really need to be packaged well and described in detail. Usually when a seller has a few negatives and is selling something that could get damaged in transit, they better all be explained or I simply move on. Postal insurance is not very helpful as the standards have gone up and the USPS is not going to reimburse for things not properly packaged.

I agree that filing a UPI is better than neging someone. Many people do not leave negs, so when you see one, there should have been others.

  • <<99% is actually a bad feedback rating>>

That's ridiculous. It is a very good Feedback. Someone who has 99% FB is probably not afraid to get a Retaliatory FB when Negging a Deadbeat Bidder. Too many people are chicken and turn the other cheek.

If someone had 97% or less then I would start wondering.
  • 99% is actually a bad feedback rating. I look for 99.8% or above.

One neg for every 399 pos. is bad feedback? If you have received this many Pos. you have completed about 600 auctions. If you give out negs. during these 600 auctions and only received one back, you are a great seller. 100% feedback sellers tend to be timid about giving negs. because they do not want to ruin their 100% so deadbeats do not get the negs they deserve to warn other sellers like the system was setup to do. The only way to hurt a poor seller is to give a neg.. The Ebay program for Disputes over items not received or received but significantly not as described does not work as well as a non paying bidder alert. Buyer beware is the best advice and if sellers do not have negs. you get no heads up. I look for 98% but always check feedback received/given, total number of feedback and auctions for like items.

e USPS is not going to reimburse for things not properly packaged.

Then why does the clerk accept the money for insurance? I always wondered about that.
    Good for you.
