    What you see is in fact "B.P.", the initials of the designer of the St. George/Dragon reverse, Benedetto Pistrucci.

    If there is a mintmark, it is found above the date, between the second and third digit of the date. If there is no mintmark, then the coin was minted in London (unless it's a modern sovereign).

    The reason why I am asking, the date on the coin is 1917
    I checked Krause and have found a big difference in the price.
    If am missing something?. Because I have paid $107.00 for this coin.
    Thank you.

    If the date is 1917, check above the date for a letter.

    "C" = Ottawa, Canada
    "I" = Bombay, India
    "P" = Perth
    "M" = Melbourne
    "S" = Sydney
    "SA" = Pretoria, South Africa

    Also, beware of forgeries - 1917 London sovereigns are rare and often faked.

    Here's a page on the 1917 gold sovereign.
