Just for kicks

I opened a cello box of 1988 Topps football, suprised me when the first pack I had had Montana on the front. Found another with LT on the front, these will probaly be resold unopened on Ebay. I was just focusing on the superstar cards when going through pulled 40 cards that may be submittable. I will go through and cull it down to the top 10, I will post the best later to see whay yall think. Unfortunatly there was only one Bo Jackson Rookie which I have already culled. I was putting it in the sleeve and saw a spot on it that looked funny it was the dreaded paper wrinkle.

I will probaly never actually submit them unless I feel I have a 10 or PSA runs a killer special..

  • Amazing how Bo Jackson still has fans. He coulda woulda shoulda been the greatest. Of course, he would have had to stop playing baseball for KC. The Raiders could have won the Super Bowl those years, oh wells image

It's fun to crack the old cheap stuff. I did the same with a 87 Topps BB, but only Bonds in the box was OC.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!
  • I just opened a 88 topps wax box this evening.
Bad year for FB cards but i was rather impressed with the centering of the cards in my box.

    Cards pulled from the box:

    1 Montana
    2 D.Marino
    1 Elway
    2 Bo Jackson
    1 Testeverde
    3 Rice

not to mention several other minor cards. All perfect cards except 1 rice which looks to grade at a 8 because of centering and one bo jackson because of a gum wrinkle.

not to bad for a 10 dollar box.

  • I like '87 football boxes the most. The cello boxes especially.
Nice value for $45 or $50.

'87 Topps baseball is my favorite box under $20, any sport.

Bo Jackson will always be popular because he remains the greatest video game athlete of all time from Tecmo Bowl on the old Nintendo. A close 2nd is Barry Sanders from Tecmo Super Bowl, and 3rd is Jeremy Roenick from NHL Hockey 95 (maybe 96). As far as cheap boxes go, I like 86 Topps bb because I always liked the simple design and gem mint cards actually command a premium. I think a Schmidt recently sold for like $350, and that's one of the ones with a higher pop. In fact, I may buy a rack case soon just for kicks. Try getting more bang for $80. Another fun one is 89 Fleer 1st run with the Billy Ripken "f*** face". Now that's a fun pull.
