Gretzky 9.5

What do you think this will end at?

Just your thoughts on what you think of this card. I personally think it's gorgeous.

Seller also stated that the PSA 10 sold for 50K which I doubt was documented.
I think that card is locked away and will never see daylight since it's the only 1.

Wow. I'd say at least 4k. It's an absolute beaut.
  • maybe less now that people are upset with hockey. However, a lot of vintage buyers don't really care what happens in the present. I would 5k, what's the population report on 9's?

    I was afraid you'd guys say 4 or 5K.
I'm hoping it'll end at 1K (wishful thinking); because I want it.
    PSA 9 average about 5K.
  • So much for wishing thinking.
    It's at $2,200+ with 5 days left.

What a bad time to try to sell it. He should've either sold it several months ago before the strike was a definite, or just hold on to it until hockey gets started back up. I still think it will bring at least 5k, maybe even 7.

  • so think it will 10k?

No bad time to sell a card like that. My guess would be around $5,000. The colors are amazing!
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Is it just me or do the edges look like it was cut with a dull spoon?

I'd rather see it fuzzy than one of those Martin's Sports sheet-cuts...

I've seen worse on the older OPC's.

People buying this card are unaffected by the strike, if anything, will drive more money into it. Hockey fans thinking back to the good ole days of high scoring and actual fun at games, instead of the clutch and grab show it's turned into.

Tons of activity with tons of time left, and who knows how many snipe bids...I'd expect it to come close to $9k.
  • It's a great card but the t/b centering seems a little off.
  • I just sold one of my opc 1979 gretzky psa 9's for almost 5,000

This card does not look gem mint to me, the centering is horrible on the front, beautiful on the back and the opc cut is overkill (psa usually downgrades for extensive opc cut, but depends on the grader). I think psa would grade this card an 8, BORDERLINE 9

BTW I have been trying to find out who has the psa 10 gretzky rookie, if he actually paid 50k for it then he would make alot more money if he sold it to me as I am currently looking for this card and willing to pay 1.5-2 times what he paid for it.

If anyone knows who owns it PM me.

    Thanks

I think it's really dumb that cards don't get down graded due to rough cuts but they do for other factory screw ups like print spots.. wrinkles.. In my opinion that card is worth a 6. I would rather own a PSA 7 with nice clean cut edges. I agree on the centering as well.. not worth the grade based on just that.

This auction is for those who buy the grade not the card.

Wahoo - Im the high bidder at 4k. I will sell lottery tickets at 1k a pop to get this card if I win it. Need 5 buyersimage
  • This is sick for a modern card. It is ruff around the edges.

its an OPC, ruff around the edges is not a bad thing..

  • LOL. I suppose if the edges were rougher it would get a PSA 11

    From the auction description :

"...incomparably pleasing, aesthetically graceful ..." image
"... next to impossible to conceptualize, ... " image

He probably figured the $50,000 "sale" price on the SMR PSA 10 listing. Apparently, they'll list the exact sale price for a 1 of 1 card of this magnitude (a la the $1.265 mil PSA 8 Wagner).
  • so who has a snipe on itimage

the rough cut is supposed to signify non sheet cut but with all the supposed sheet cut cards surfacing from the mastro auctions can this card possibly be sheet cut? does anyone know the seller or when the card was graded? i read somewhere that the new sheet cutters were able to mimick the rough opc cut. why wouldnt the seller want to have psa grade it? dont get me wrong , the card is awesome but would it cross to psa 9?
    Bob
  • I know sheet cut cards are bad. But all cards are cut from sheets at some point. That little bit of devil's advocate is of course misleading, because I wouldn't want a sheet cut card either.

Didn't PSA have a problem even grading the OPC's for awhile?

This is why everyone should avoid Beckett and use only PSA, especially for high dollar items.

No way PSA even grades a piece of garbage like this.

It's not Beckett, it's a Global card. Why is this card a piece of garbage?
Because it has the original rough cut (how it should be)?
