When will the ANA conventions return to the New York area?

I took a look at the web site, and it looks like neither ANA convention will be coming to the New York area any time soon (they just had dates through 2007, though). As an East-coaster who considers NYC to be the center of the universe, why are the conventions not scheduled there more often (I think the last was was 2002?). image

Because all you East-coasters act like you are at the center of the universe. (Couldn't resist) image

i wonder why it doesn't get scheduled in the Cleveland area, i think the last time was the mid-1960's but i could be wrong. what i think tends to happen is that a good location that is well attended moves up on the list for repeat consideration at the expense of other cities. nothing against cities hosting it every 5-10 years, but i think it should rotate around the entire country.

with all that said, having had an ANA show in NYC a few years ago you have nothing to whine about.

  • Now why can't they just alternate going back and forth? And rotate teh shows, East, Central, West, East, Central West?

Though, I should be making it to the other side for the San Fran ANA image Splitting a room with a friend cut the cost in half, and makes it much more reasonable image

New York was a horrible location the last time it was there. Very expensive and not enough table space.

I suspect cost is a huge factor. Thousands of people coming in from out of town are going to want to stay somewhere that doesn't cost $250 a night.

Looking at how Pittsburgh got the ANA last year, it seemed to be critical to have a well-established club campaigning for it, and who will do a lot of the local legwork.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
