People's Court - Mantle baseball fake

Yesterday on People's Court they had a case where this guy bought a baseball which was sold to him as an autographed Mantle, with "#6" on it, which made it exceedingly rare, since this was BEFORE he donned the #7. The ball was certified, BUT--the certification number stamped on the ball did not agree with the certification paper. The guy who bought the ball managed to bring along an expert who testified that not only was the ball a fraud, but the ball itself was actually manufactured two years after Mantle's death! Needless to say, the man won his case, and got his money (well over $1,000.) returned. The judge also admonished the seller not to try selling the ball again, since she was "going to keep an eye on him". His excuse was that he himself had bought the ball in good faith. The judge ruled however, that this was no excuse--that he would need to take that up with the person HE bought it from; so once he sells it, the onus is on him to deliver a valid product. A good lesson for anyone buying an autographed baseball--check those numbers and make sure they match up!
