My first Cameo shot- How do you think it will grade?

Please let me know what the general observation of this 1977 Proof Quarter would be.....I haven't tried my hand at Cams but after viewing all from Marty and Russ, I am going to give it a try!!!! Note: Photo has only been altered to fit the 50kb or less rule, no cleaning or altering of the angle to get a "better pic"

Definately a CAM, but could be a DCAM. I can't quite tell the thickness of the frost on GW's neck and LIBERTY. The frost looks a little thin on the eagles wings as well. Those mid-70's come really thick and creamy!

Cameo and, frankly, not all that good for the 1977.

I agree Russ, but I was second guessing myself.

You should ask Eagle7 here on the boards to post a pic of his quarter from this era.

  • I think the reverse is short of DCAM. JMHO. I will try to post my 1960 tomorrow. image

  • That 60 is hella sweet!!!!!

One of the things that everyone may want to look at is the date on my coin.......it is not in a holder so there is no reflection of plastic.

okay... caveat this with... I dont collect quarters... but, wouldn't there be a ton of the 77's already in PCGS grades? Why would you want to risk a possible marginal coin with PCGS if you can buy one for less than $20 ( a # off the top of my head) pre-made? My point here is... if it costs $14 for the grading, a few bucks for the shipping back and forth, two months waiting, etc... wouldn't it be easier and less stress just to buy one pre-made as 69DCAM? Marty and Russ... what would a 77 69DCAM cost on the Bay of E?

I love that 60. If I found it raw I would probably have it holdered just to keep. It's not all about just getting the grade on the holder.

I recommend you save the trouble and buy one already slabbed. A quick e-bay search shows a 77 69DCAM closed at $7.50 plus $3 shipping. Hard to beat when grading is $14, plus shipping, plus you may not score 69DCAM.

I agree whats special about a 77 DCAM quarter, you can find one of that quality raw in a proof set?, or buy one where somebody else already paid the grading fee for little of nothing.

No on the other hand the 60 DCAM quarter is sharp!!(even for a non modern guy)
