My first PSA cards

Well I got my first PSA graded cards back yesterday. Here they are. I thought they would do better but for my first time I guess its okay. On the #3 Walter card I cant understand why it graded so low. I thought it looked pretty good.

  • Does the 2nd Payton have a surface wrinkle? I think you got a good grade on the Montana. There's a fine line between a 7, 7 OC, and 8 OC on this card, and you're better off with the 7. Everything else looks about right from the pics.

Hi Lee, I think it does. I looked really close under a bright light and it looks as if there is a small bubbly line on his right thigh. Do you think this is the reason? Its really hard to see it.

  • A lot of times I get a 5 on a card that I thought was a 9 because I missed a surface wrinkle, no matter how small. The centering on the Elway is beautiful, but my favorite out of the lot is the Ripken. Any chance you'd like to sell or trade it?

  • Not a bad order Matt. I agree, the Elway looks great.
Looks like a little snow on the surface but less than the norm.
You escaped the PD qualifier on it. The Payton EX 5 has got to
have the dreaded surface wrinkle. Don't get discouraged. You'll
get better as you start submitting more and know what to look for.

Lee, I will keep it in mind ( trading or selling it ) but for now I am going to keep it. Thanks for your help though.

  • I like the ripken but hate that dreaded 9 (OC).. Would have been better with an 8.

I am getting ready to send in my first submission in about 3 years. Finally renewed my membership.

Looks a lot like my first submission. I remember the horror of opening the package and being utterly devistated by the obvious incorrect grades!

BTW, why does that guy above want the 9oc Ripken? Am I missing something? You can probably find one (or 1,000) like that on Ebay!?

Actually there really aren't any 9 oc's up and only 1 or 2 9s, and the ones I've seen go up have been centered a lot worse than this one. Actually, I think this a borderline OC because it doesn't detract all that much from the appeal of the card. If the T/B (from how the card is slabbed) was about 5% better, I think it would've gotten a 9. I wouldn't mind paying psa 8 nmoney for this card.
