SS Republic coins

Greetings once again. This is my second post, still watching are learning a lot from you guys. Any thoughts on the investment potential for some of the SS Republic coins? The gold coins are way out of my league ($5000+), but I could probably afford to buy one of the silver coins at $1000. They are really high though. In your opinion, are these coins worth the price? One other thing, I looked through the "help" menu on how to change my "author icon", and I can't find any info. Can anyone help? Thanks folks.

The S.S. Republic coins are priced at high above their value and are being primarily marketed to non-collectors. The coins themselves are damged, having been abraded somewhat in the ocean and then cleaned, further lessening their value. The only reason that they sell for more than similar non-Republic coins is because they have in fact been salavaged from a relatively famous wreck. So, they probably aren't a good investment. Your author icon can be changed anytime if you pick one from the list in your profile, or you can upload your own on the 15th of every month. Just make sure it's under 10KB and no more than 100x100 pixels.

If you are interested in starting a collection of treasure coins, they are interesting....but as investment...I would say no

is eactly right....once the marketing guys stop marketing ....the demand will lessen thus so will the price

always remember my equation for coin investing

quality plus rareity divided by demand

for promoted items like shipwrecks its

quality plus rareity divived by demand x marketing

once the marketing ends...the price goes down...its always been so and will not change....ever

now if we could short these coins for futrue delivery we would make a fortune

my goal is to find the monsters and i go where they are but i sometimes miss some.... so if you have any and want to sell IM THE BUYER FOR THEM!!!

I agree. I would consider a gold coin for my set, but I would not buy the silver coins, especially those that are offered in the $1000 range.
  • Many of the Silver coinage is from the Seated Liberty series and labeled "shipwreck effect" as a grade. While these are a peice of history, a no grade is a no grade! Stick with the gold from the SS Republic. The demand will support the market while the silver coins might not pass the ltmus test of most collectors. JMHO

I'm not going to buy any of the actual coins, but I do plan to get the DVD of National Geographic special about it. It was a great program!
