  • This has been going on for decades. More proof for me to avoid modern.

  • More proof to avoid modern?

Maybe to avoid retail pack of modern or packs from opened boxes at shops. This is why I only buy sealed boxes of modern.

I know people who have these huge lists and can take an old rack or cello and identify one card in the pack and tell you every card in that pack. There are also lists that can guide you to all the good cards in a wax box of vintage cards by opening one pack. So it happens and really cannot be avoided.

Aside from that I know the methods that the searchers use and they do not work on autograph cards, and only about 60% of the time on other packs. Packs that contain cut autographs if you picked up the pack you would have to be pretty dense to not realize it is in there, the pack just has an instantly noticable different feel, open a box of sweet spot that contains one cut auto and you will see what I mean.

I would like to know what he means by "Don't let my limited feedback fool you as I used to be a very near power seller before I moved and got a new computer."

Getting a new computer has no bearing on your feedback because you always have the same ID.

  • buying pack is always more expensive, and not as much fun. I only buy sealed boxes myself.

The guys's feedback score is over 400, which is better than my 290, so I guess he's legit. However, I agree that he either lying or stupid claiming to be a former powerseller.

Can he lose the powerseller "logo" if he falls below selling $1,000 each month?

The positive feedback is a good indication that the pack will indeed have what the seller says it will have. That being said, here's a couple of things to think about.

    1) Some claim they can reseal packs, which has to be more difficult these days than 20 years ago, but if it can be done, the seller could put a game used in the pack that wouldn't sell for $2.00 on it's own.

    2) If they are not searched and the seller can tell by either feel or weight, I'd hate to shop in his hobby shop if he has one. That would be really low to pull game used and autos out of your boxes and put the rest on the shelf.

    3) Buy a sealed hobby box from a reputable dealer and there's nothing to worry about.
  • I only know of one shop where there have been any claims of pulling the auto/jersey cards. The owner had an employee who worked for me hand out the good packs to his buddies. Never verified, but the guy got canned. The canned guy now manages another shop down the block from the old one.

    Yes.

Yes again. I am quite certain that the main big sellers of "guaranteed game used / auto" packs on Ebay right now are selling resealed packs. Be wary of them.

  • I haven't opened a variety of modern boxes, only 04 Sweet Spot and I could definitely tell which pack had the auto. I stay away from the retail packs, mostly because it's very obvious that they have been searched by someone. As for the 'hot packs' selling on ebay - I have seen 04 Legendary Cuts selling for over $250 with 'guaranteed cut auto's' and wondered how they could honestly make that guarantee. I never heard anything about pack resealing before this thread, and I wonder no more . . .

If it's been going on for decades, how is that an indictment of modern cards?

Not true. Depends on the brand, but there are certain ones that pack searchers can find the autos in.

  • Ah even sealed boxes will be able to be searched when I am finished developing my super secret scanning device hahahaha....needless to say it wasn't easy to create a scanner that can scan not only the top and bottom cards of stacks of cards within wrappers, but the ones in between too.
